Residents of southwestern Connecticut have multiple incentives to assume more eco-friendly lifestyles and to “Go Green”. From financial rewards for reducing energy consumption, to the environmentally important goal of living more responsible and sustainable lives, we are becoming more and more aware of our need to reduce energy and natural resource consumption in our Wilton, New Canaan, Darien, and Greenwich, Connecticut homes.
Since bathrooms are one of the most popular rooms to be remodeled, green remodeling in the home often starts here. Some of the more popular methods of making an eco-friendly bathroom include:
- Use less water by installing a low flow shower head and either a low flow or dual flush toilet
- Save energy by removing incandescent light bulbs and replace with compact fluorescent lights
- Bring in the green plants, which clean the air of toxins such as formaldehyde, and reduce moisture. Be sure your bathroom is adequately exhausted to the exterior of your home.
- Use fewer harsh chemicals for cleaning agents and in beauty products
A recent survey conducted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), revealed a growing demand for green remodeling, and a willingness on the part of homebuyers to pay more for sustainable, green homes. "Americans spend over $230 billion on home remodeling, with energy-efficient and sustainable products representing an increasing share of the market," says Mike Nagel, chair of the NAHB Remodelers Council.
