  • Brighten Up Your Bathroom with Natural Light

One room that benefits the most from natural lighting is one that rarely receives it: the bathroom. As you plan your custom home or bathroom remodel, you should consider creating a bathroom design that allows you to bring sunlight into the space.

The bathroom design trends for master bathrooms in particular have featured designs that include large windows. While a full-length window may not be feasible in our area, you can still use windows to create drama and add architectural interest to your bathroom. For example, one of our clients opted for a window instead of sheet rock on the wall behind the vanity.

To solve the problem of where to place them mirror, we mounted it right on the window!  Although this decision was made because the client wanted to take advantage of the beautiful views, the window had the additional benefit of allowing the homeowners to get ready in the morning in natural light instead of artificial light.

A window behind the bathtub can create a beautiful focal point in the room. These windows also allow you to enjoy the view outside while you soak in your tub. Incorporating your outdoor surroundings into your décor can transform your bathroom into a quiet retreat.

If windows are hard to fit into the design, an interesting alternative is a solar tube. Solar tubes have replaced skylights as a way to bring in natural light from above. Unlike skylights, solar tubes capture light all day long because the domed top catches the sun’s light from every angle. They also offer better heat insulation than skylights.

We have found many ways to integrate natural lighting into bathrooms, and we have many other suggestions for how you can integrate natural light into your home.
