Some Ideas to Consider …

  • Know the Maintenance Involved Before Signing Off on Butcher Block Counters

A butcher block countertop is an ideal surface for a traditional kitchen. The wood surface is durable and adds a rustic touch to your home decor. Before you install butcher block countertops it’s helpful to be fully aware of their required maintenance.

Keep your butcher block looking great by:

      • Keeping it Clean: Keeping the butcher block clean is essential for safe cooking practices and overall home hygiene. Always keep a bottle of undiluted white vinegar handy to use in cleaning up common spills. This will keep kitchen bacteria such as salmonella and E. coli at bay.

      • Promptly Removing Stains: Don’t fret over stains to your butcher block. Instead, work to promptly remove them using a proven method such as lemon juice, baking soda, bleach, scraping, or sanding.

    • Maintaining the Finish: Classic butcher block finishes, such as mineral oil and tung oil, will wear off over time and require reapplication. Give yourself plenty of time to ensure the oil application is done properly. Let the oil sit on the counter for 15 to 20 minutes and then reapply it to allow for even distribution.
