The idea of an open kitchen is perfect, right? There’s a natural flow from other rooms, you have easy access to other parts of the house and it’s perfect for entertaining. However, you may wish your open kitchen was a bit more closed off. There are a variety of innovative ways to completely or partially close off your open kitchen, including:

    • Adding a half wall. A half wall between the kitchen and dining room allows you to hide some of the food prep area from guests while still staying connected to the party.
    • Raising the island. When you raise a portion of the island, you add the potential for seating and a natural barrier that gives the kitchen a bit of privacy.
    • Installing a sliding door. A sliding door gives you the option of completely closing off the kitchen, allowing partial access or leaving it wide open.
    • Virtually close it off. Adding glass cabinets, a pass through or a partial series of cabinets provides division without completely closing the kitchen off.
